Arctic Congress Bodø 2024 to Convene in Norway to Address Key Arctic Issues

Nordland Research Institute is heavily involved in organising the Arctic Congress Bodø 2024, not only as one of the local hosts but also represented in all organising committees.

The Arctic Congress Bodø 2024, the most extensive Arctic conference of its kind, will bring together experts from various fields to exchange knowledge and connect with peers worldwide. The event will occur from May 29 to June 3, 2024, in Bodø, Norway, and will be hosted by Nordland Research Institute and Nord University. In a collaboration between UArctic, IASSA and High North Center, the conference combines the UArctic Congress 2024, the High North Dialogue 2024, and the International Congress of Arctic Social Sciences (ICASS XI).

Nordland Research Institute is one of the local hosts

NRI is heavily involved in organising the congress, not only as one of the local hosts but also represented in all organising committees. Our researcher Grete Hoveldsud is a Steering Committee chair and a Local Planning Committee member. Researcher Helena Gonzales Lindberg is a member of the Programme Committee. Researchers Majken Paulsen and communication advisor Marta Anna Løvberg are the Local Planning Committee members.

As the Chair of the Congress Steering Committee and a President of IASSA Grete K. Hovelsrud highlights the significance of this collaboration, stating that "Bringing three conferences together in Bodø will be an extraordinary showcase of Arctic cooperation." It will provide a unique platform for participants to connect and network with key stakeholders in the Arctic region. The conference will include internal meetings of the organising partners, high-level plenaries and parallel sessions, networking and social activities. For sustainable northern futures

The Arctic Congress Bodø 2024 will focus on key themes related to Norway's Arctic Council chairship priorities, including the impacts of climate change, sustainable development, and efforts to enhance the well-being of people living in the region. The themes will also cover Arctic youth's and Indigenous peoples overarching priorities.

The conference will feature four main themes, including oceans, climate and environment, sustainable economic developments, and people of the North. The sessions will cover ocean health and productivity, reducing marine litter and plastic pollution, climate change impacts on Arctic environments and biodiversity, sustainable economic development, and public health.

The conference promises to be a significant highlight of the Arctic calendar and an essential step towards a sustainable and prosperous future for the region.
